Hi All, I'm Art. I'm a librarian in a public library in the Chicago suburbs. I have a wide variety of modelling interests including sci-fi, real space, aircraft, cars and of course, armor. My favorite military subjects are armored cars and Sherman tanks. I switched from 1/35th scale armor to 1/48th largely due to lack of space, lower cost, and being smaller with fewer parts, a 1/48th scale tank will generally build up more quickly than a comparable model in 1/35th scale. I also like that my armor models are in scale with my air and spacecraft models.
Good forum. Thanks for setting it up.

Welcome to the inner-circle.
Which Chicago burb are you from? I grew up on the north side of the city (Laramie and Fullerton area).

Hi Ralph.
Thanks for the kind words about the Ftc. I live in Hoffman Estates, a northwestern Chicago suburb near Schaumburg.
Anyone else near here?

Hi chaps, Spad here, been a modeller on & off since about 1962 when my grandad bought me a 1/96 scale Frog Wellington on one of our regular Sunday outings to North Shields market. Still remember it, black plastic, little capsules of glue & dk. earth dk.green paint, brilliant, probably made a right mess of it (10yrs old). Have been away from modelling for a few years but just getting back into it now, although a recent house move means it'll be a while before I get active again, however I'm making myself a doozie of a mancave/workroom. Modelling interests insanely eclectic but main threads are ww2 kit in service post war, both a/c & armour (why does nobody do Israeli half tracks), 1/100th scale a/c, 1/48th scale tanks, DC-3's/C47's in all flavours, Northrop F-5's,Skyraiders, Korean & other "minor" post ww2 conflicts, cars, coastal warships, submarines & wargame figures. See, told you, insane. Anyway I'm glad to be here & look forward to contributing in the future, Spad

I'll do the intro thing, I guess I'm Jim, grew up just outside of Boston MA, now in NC. Have had a interest in scale armor since a early teen, in the 60's. Started with spending allowance on Rocco Mini Tanks, then found plastic kits. Found the 1/48 Bandai stuff when it came out, built quite a few. Moved into railway modeling in the late 70's, just back to armor this past year or so. Primary interest has been, and still is, WWII. Went through the German armor fascination phase back then, now more focused on US and UK stuff. I still like the 1/48 scale, but I have to admit, it's such a niche that it's way easier to find what I want in braille scale or 1/35. But I do plan to acquire a couple of Tamiya kits, and maybe 1 or 2 Bandai kits via ebay, soon. I tend to have 3 or 4, or more, models at different stages, just work on whichever one strikes me when I get my desk. I hate to paint, but am working on that, and with now having a place to leave my airbrush set up all the time, should make some progress. Anyway, that's me, hope to contribute some, here. Jim F

Welcome Jim F, I too enjoy having two or three kits going at once. Right now I have a tamiya 1/48 duce and a half fuel truck at 80% and willys jeep at 30% on my desk and a monogram a26 Invader at 50% next to my desk. I take turns with each because I have the attention span of a cat. What was your favorite Bandai kit?

hi jim! perhaps you could switch to using brushes if you hate to paint with an airbrush i dont own an airbrush and would probably hate painting myself if i did brushes are nice and quiet using acrylic paints and thinning with water you can get a nice look with no brush strokes and even some almost faded airbrush looking effects just food for thought
