Hello all,
Welcome to the Armored 48 forum. Make yourselves at home.
Let me begin by saying hi.
My name is Ralph, and I'll be your forum admin. I live in the Washington, DC. area (for now) with my wife, dog and cat. I'm an archaeologist by profession, and a modeler by avocation. I build all kinds of models, but tend to focus on 1/48 armor along with 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft. My uncle Zbigniew, who is a modeling god, and a shermaholic, got me into models when I was a child when he and my dad bought me a 1/32 scale Monogram Grant sometime around 1986/1987. Shortly afterwards I discovered Shepard Paine's diorama book, and there has been no turning back ever since (minus a short stint during my teens, where girls, cars, and guitars trumped plastic).
In addition to modeling, I also enjoy rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, camping, playing guitar, and reading science, history and biography.

Hi Ralph -
I'm Malcolm, one of the first Track 48 forum members, and now one of yours. Until now Track 48 is the only online forum I belonged to, but I'll take a shot with your new endeavor, in the hope that it will be as friendly and civil place as Track 48 is.
I only model in 1/48, almost exclusively WWII era armour, but I also model Battle of Britain aircraft too, in honour of my parents, who lived through the Battle and the Blitz. I got started in modelling when I was five, took a break during the married years, and got back to it about ten years ago. I always detail up/modify my builds, and sometimes I scratchbuild entire vehicles too.
As for outside of armour modelling, I'm an expat Scotsman bachelor who lives on the east coast of Florida, and I build experimental airplanes to pay the bills. I have a few other interests, but my other big thing is reading science fiction. Iain M. Banks and Jack Vance rule! Most of my friends are musicians in local rock bands, so I'm around that scene a lot too.
Best of luck with this new forum.

Thanks, Ralph. Glad to be able to help, when the subject is something I'm familiar with (which isn't Shermans).

Ralph, I'm settling in, I got my avatar sorted. What's with the "sprue nipper" under my username? Could that be altered to "styrene surgeon"?

That's your member rank. It changes as you make more posts. I think there is a way to manually change them in your profile settings though. Haven't played with that feature much.

Hi, biggles here. I've been building models since around 1956, so that makes me an old fart! I'll put together just about anything that comes in a box in pieces - armor; aircraft; ships; figures - no cars, too hard to finish. Right now I'm in the midst of a 1/700 ship building binge, but still have a sizable stash of 1/48 armor, etc. from when I thought 1/48 was the way to go. Still build them occasionally, though.

Hi Ralph, I`m Dave Morris, like Malcolm i`m a T48 forum regular. I`m always interested in something new so i`m happy to support this forum.
I build mainly 1/48th armour with some Sci-Fi thrown in. My interests are any vehicles from France 1940 era, Soviet WW2, British WW2 and modern AFV`s. though kits of modern AFV`s are a little thin on the ground.
I hope that this forum stays a place of peace and tranquility.

Hello, glad to see 1/48 scale armor is still alive! I'm Chris and my first kit was a 1/72 scale Revell PB4Y1 that my mom picked up at a thrift shop in 1972 when I was seven. We did not have plastic glue so I used clear tape to put it together until some glue showed up. I loved that kit and the retractable landing gear. We spent many anti sub patrols together before she was taken out of service. (Sad to say she ended up in the bone yard.) My dad was a Lionel train guy and had an awesome set up so in 1976 I picked up my first Bandai Pin point U.S infantry to have battles with my dinosaurs on the train table. Then in 77 I built my first Bandai M4A3 75mm and was addicted to 1/48 scale tanks. I bought as many Shermans, half tracks and jeeps as possible due to Lionelville being over run by killer dinosaurs. I loved all the interior details that Bandai put into those kits and was very sad when they stopped the production lines. Now with Tamiya 1/48 scale and a daughter that works in Japan I am enjoying the new kits she sends me. I am really enjoying the additions but wish Tamiya would do interior details. I am getting excited about the Airfix 1/48 WWII kits but I just wish Bandai would reopen the Pin point series. I am just finishing up the M8 and have the Dingo next in line and the airfield fuel truck after that. Thanks for putting this site up, you rock!

Welcome Olivier, Biggles, Dave and Chris. Looks like we're getting a nice cross-section of interests and experience here. I'm glad to see you've made it over to our little corner of the internet. Feel free to start some threads, upload some pics, and get this place looking busy.

I'm also working on an Arizona - 1/700 by Dragon. It's a bit of a dog, but there's tons of recent resin and PE upgrades for it recently.

My name is Winston I've been a modeler for most of my 44 years. Currently I am a stay at home parent of 3 future modelers I play in the Rochester Concert Band and I am active as a swim coach. I have also run Wings n Treads for 9 years now but I am finding that I am spending more time with my kids and coaching so I am sidelining more to building and working on resin aftermarket products. I recently finished my Masters in Clasical History with an emphasis on the Near East. As a child I spent 3 years living in Saudi Arabia and I have a soft spot for the area in my heart.
